Addiction

Addiction showed up dressed to kill
A wolf in sleep’s clothing
A nightdress, caress
The sweet smell of excess

Just one dance – no chance of addiction, right?
A whirling, swirling, blurring
Conquering, concerning – nothing
With caution thrown to the wind
Through the window
The door open wide
Perception in mind but that’s not what the seeker finds

Reality, captivity, dancing the line
Between sanity and madness
Happiness, sadness
Giddiness, tipsiness, the pressure rising to excess

“No-mind” she said or addressed, I’m not sure
“Live for the moment” “Die later – In my arms”
Her charms take me down
And I drown.

Washed up on the shore
A week, maybe more
My new bride – till death did us part

–{the years pass}

It was fun, at the start, but shouldn’t you be going?
Her smile turned sardonic,
“Your mine now, we’re married, and how!”
“What?”
“The ceremony’s started, till death do you part.
And you will grow old and die before your time.
For my name is ‘Addiction,’ and now you are mine.”
